The Louvre museum is considering moving the Mona Lisa to an underground chamber to end “public disappointment.”

“We don’t welcome visitors very well in this room, so we feel we’re not doing our job properly,” the museum’s director told staff and supervisors. “Moving the Mona Lisa to a separate room could put an end to public disappointment.”

The Louvre’s chief curator of the painting noted the exhibit fails to meet expectations. “It’s a large room, and the Mona Lisa is at the back, behind its security glass, so at first glance it looks like a postage stamp.”

The proposed underground chamber would be part of the “Grand Louvre” renovation, featuring direct access to the painting and bypassing the traditional glass pyramid entrance. This relocation plan comes amid financial constraints faced by the French government and protests targeting the painting by environmental activists.
