Daniel Day-Lewis is standing firm on his retirement from acting, attributing his decision partly to the changes brought about by streaming platforms.

His longtime collaborator, director Jim Sheridan, shared that Day-Lewis feels overwhelmed by the sheer volume of content on streaming services, none of which he finds appealing.

Despite efforts from Sheridan and other renowned directors like Martin Scorsese to persuade him to return, Day-Lewis remains committed to his retirement, initially announced after a performance in 2017.

Sheridan: “He says he’s done. I keep talking to him. I’d love to do something with him again. He’s like everybody else. He opens up the streamers and there’s seven thousand choices, none of them are good. Film has been moved out of the public domain into a private domain -- you have a remote, you can stop it. It’s not the same experience. It’d be great to see Daniel coming back and doing something because he’s so good.”
