A hypnotist has been jailed after using “insidious tactics” to steal and sell nude photos of women.

Robert Temple, 36, was sentenced to eight months after pleading guilty to hacking, fraud, and converting criminal property. Although he didn’t use hypnotism for the crimes, authorities say he leveraged other related skills to hack into private online accounts of women to steal nude photos and sell them for cryptocurrency.

Specifically, users on an online forum would request certain women, and Temple would contact them, pretending to be a modeling agent. He then presumably obtained enough information to hack into their accounts and steal the photos.

Authorities note that this was all happening as he was on tour for his hypnotism, with performances of his show scheduled for this week.

An undisclosed source: “He didn’t have particular computing skills, so we think it was his ability to focus on people’s personal information that enabled him to work out passwords. He had a gift for social engineering which is undoubtedly part of his success as an entertainer, but unfortunately, he’s exploited it in a very cruel manner.”
