A new study has found that “being on the same wavelength” is not just a saying but a scientific phenomenon. Researchers discovered that when small, hierarchical groups bond, the brains of followers and leaders synchronize, promoting quicker and more frequent communication.

To conclude this, researchers experimented with nearly 200 groups of three people, using electrodes to track brain activity. The groups were arranged based on color preference.

Within these groups, bonding sessions led to more dynamic communication compared to groups that didn’t have bonding. This effect was notably stronger in interactions between leaders and followers than among followers alone.

The findings suggest that when bonding is strong, leaders can predict what followers will say and followers will feel more “heard” by their leaders.
