A survey of 2,000 U.S. adults reveals a preference for being remembered for creativity, contrasting sharply with desires for wealth or humanitarian recognition.

Of those polled, 31% favor creativity as their legacy, overshadowing wealth (14%) and humanitarian efforts (10%). Despite 79% considering themselves creative, 72% wish to incorporate creativity into their lives more frequently.

Some of those surveyed say they alleviate stress through writing (14%), painting (12%) and drawing (10%). The greatest motivators for people to get more creative include sharing with the world (27%), bonding with friends and family (24%), and wanting to relax (22%).

Many (77%) respondents admitted they’d be more likely to explore their creativity if they were more confident in their abilities.
