Jack Black has immersed himself in playing “Minecraft” to prepare for his role in the upcoming live-action adaptation, where he will star as Steve. He has dedicated the last month and a half exclusively to understanding the sandbox game’s mechanics and world.

In an interview with IGN, the actor said: “An actor prepares, so, I have literally been exclusive to ‘Minecraft’ for the last month and a half. All ‘Minecraft,’ all the time. Getting back into it, because I did play years ago because my kids were super-duper into it, and I wanted to speak their language. So, I studied hard, and I learned, and I was getting really into it, building houses and tunneling around. It's pretty rad.”

The director, Jared Hess, noted: “Trying to adapt something that doesn’t have a story—it’s an open sandbox game... I like the challenge. There’s got to be a fun, ridiculous movie here. And there is.”

The movie is scheduled for release on April 4, 2025. It will also feature Jason Momoa and Jennifer Coolidge, although details on the plot remain under wraps.
