A new study suggests python farming could be a highly sustainable meat source. Researchers have found that python meat, similar to chicken filet in texture, could be a viable alternative to beef, pork, and chicken due to its lower carbon footprint.

For over a year, scientists studied pythons in Southeast Asia, discovering these species can reproduce rapidly and thrive even with minimal food availability. This resilience, combined with their efficient conversion of food to protein, makes them an attractive option for sustainable farming.

Pythons have also demonstrated the ability to withstand supply chain disruptions and extreme weather events, unlike traditional livestock.

A specialist at the nonprofit People for Wildlife: “These animals are extremely good converters of food and particularly protein. Literally, they are specialists and making the most of very little. We really are running out resources, whilst at the same time, the demand for high quality nutrients is going up.”
