TikTok is prepared to challenge U.S. legislation that would demand its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest from the company. If ByteDance refuses, the app will be banned from U.S. app stores.

According to Bloomberg, the social media network is examining every legal avenue before considering a sale, which remains a last resort. CEO Shou Chew has actively lobbied against the bill on Capitol Hill, emphasizing TikTok’s determination to fight a potential ban.

Unlike previous attempts to outlaw the app, this bill is likely to be signed into law, receiving bipartisan support in Congress and Biden’s word that he will sign the bill. It’s set for a vote in the House of Representatives tomorrow.

ByteDance divesting from TikTok would require approval from the Chinese government, which has previously stated its opposition to a forced sale of TikTok.

A TikTok spokesperson said the legislation “has a predetermined outcome: a total ban of TikTok in the United States.”
