The Massachusetts Senate has unanimously passed a bill to ban the declawing of cats.

The bill is aimed at preventing unnecessary surgical procedures that can lead to physical and psychological issues in cats, including paw and back pain, anxiety, and litter box problems.

Veterinarians who perform the declawing surgery on cats, unless medically necessary, may face disciplinary action if the bill becomes law.

Dutch futurist Lidewij Edelkoort anticipates that in the next few years, we will look more to our inner child as a source of inspiration.

“I'm craving fantasy—I don't know where it comes from, but it's there,” she said during Dubai Design Week. “I'm craving almost childish initiatives and design, I'm craving colour, I'm craving painting, motif, and ornamental finishes. It's been building up for a few years. I really believe in the return of Arts and Crafts, as it has been described by William Morris. And I think it might also be our future.”

She added: “As a kid, you always want to use cardboard to make a new building, or a box becomes your house. And sure enough, [interior designer] Max Lamb recently made an exhibition of cardboard furniture. That's how trends work—he's maybe not going back to childhood, but I use this way of thinking and then we come together on a similar idea.”

Other predictions by Edelkoort include a “universal allowance of money” and a new “age of the amateur,” spurred by AI and robots, which will make us question the reason for our existence since it will no longer be tied to work. “We will have to give a reason for being here,” she said. “A baby will be born without a future and no reason to be born, because there's no way there's going to be work—if we define the future as work, which we do.”

A new humanoid robot can relay touch sensations to a person wearing a VR headset and haptic feedback gloves hundreds of miles away, allowing people to “attend” events without traveling.

The bot, iCub 3, weighs 115 pounds and stands 50 inches tall. It features 54 points of articulation, cameras for eyes, and an internet-connected computer as its “brain.” The sensors covering its body send data to the robot’s “brain” and are then replicated on a suit and VR headset worn by a remote human operator.

Miraculously, when the person reacts to what they see and feel, the suit’s sensors pick up the movements and the robot matches them. The tech marvel demonstrated its capabilities at the Venice Biennale, where it wandered through an exhibition while its operator stood 180 miles away.

Engineer Stefano Dafarra remarked, “The key is to translate every signal and bit of numeric data that can be sent through the network,” adding that he hopes people will use the iCub 3 to attend events remotely. Right now, the system is just a prototype, but its applications could range from entertainment to healthcare to disaster response.

A 3-month-old French bulldog has astoundingly re-grown most of his lower left jaw after it was removed for a cancer surgery. This marked a first in canine medical history and the puppy, Tyson, is now cancer-free.

Within eight weeks post-operation, Tyson’s jaw began to regenerate, bone and all.

Cornell University veterinarians attribute Tyson’s jaw regeneration to his young age and preserving the jaw’s periosteum, though the exact mechanisms remain a mystery. 

Beyond surviving cancer, Tyson has thrived, enjoying life, and sparking hope for future veterinary treatments.

Study author: “More has to be done to understand the likelihood of this occurring in other dogs and if a specific age range makes a difference. But this case documents a very positive surgical outcome in a life-threatening situation. His case now demonstrates the possibility of complete bone regeneration when working with a patient this young.”

Art collective teamLab has reopened its Borderless museum in Tokyo, featuring immersive digital exhibitions. The venue originally opened in 2018, becoming the world’s most-visited single-artist museum in its first year with 2.3 million visitors.

The museum’s design and exhibits, such as the “Bubble Universe,” focus on the continuity of time and nature, aiming to fundamentally change how we perceive modern art through digital technology.

Visitors can experience a variety of interactive installations that engage all five senses, including projection-mapped floral bouquets that bloom when you touch them, along with fragrant scents.

The exhibit can also create colorful butterflies born out of thin air as you lean against a wall. Water patterns swirl around your feet only to reappear as crashing waves in another location an hour or two later. The artworks interact with each other, meaning every day and every individual experience is entirely unique.
