The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition, “Art of Noise,” showcases 800 art and design objects that explore the visual aspects of music over the last century.

The exhibition features interactive installations, such as wooden figurines programmed to “sing” in various music genres and an immersive audio experience, to offer visitors a dynamic engagement with music.

Highlights include the complete collection of rock posters from the Bay Area’s psychedelic era, works by notable designers like Milton Glaser and Victor Moscoso, and innovative music playback technology.

It aims to illustrate how music touches people universally, blending art, technology, and cross-cultural experiences in a singular showcase.

Joseph Becker, curator: “The artifacts that accompany the music lend presence to the music itself. This has been such a wonderful project to work on. There are so many different access points to music because it’s so deeply ingrained in cross-cultural experiences. I think music just touches people in a way that is similar to art, but also in a way that is more universal.”
