Researchers in China have successfully cloned two Tibetan goats, a significant achievement in livestock breeding. This comes after another team of Chinese scientists cloned a monkey in 2020, a world-first.

The goat cloning was performed by a team using adult goat cells, taking place in northwest China. The initiative aims to protect the plateau livestock breed from degeneration and enhance its adaptability to the harsh plateau environment.

The Tibetan goat is an important cash animal in northwest China, so maintaining its genetic variety and adaptability is critical to the region’s agricultural viability.
