Colossal waves have hit California’s coastal communities for three days, washing away cars, injuring a handful of onlookers, and forcing an evacuation warning.

Beyond the Golden State, the life-threatening surf conditions hit the coast of four other western states, fueled by a series of storm systems in the Pacific Ocean.

The waves reached alarming heights, with 28-33 feet waves around San Francisco, Monterey, and Big Sur coasts, and 15-20 feet waves with sets up to 25 feet around Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. 

At least eight people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.
