Elon Musk’s Neuralink Corp. has implanted a brain device in a human for the first time. This significant step in brain-computer interface technology is part of FDA-approved trials, with the patient showing promising initial results.

The implant aims to help people with lost limb function control digital devices through thought. Musk envisions a future of seamless mind-controlled technology.

Neuralink’s advancements follow extensive animal testing, demonstrating the potential for thought-controlled computer use. The procedure requires deeper brain insertion, and experts believe a market-ready device is still years away.

The current focus is on small-scale, first-in-human trials, enrolling about five to ten people and spanning around six months. Neuralink is planning 11 surgeries in 2024.

On X, Musk wrote that Neuralink’s first product would be called Telepathy. “Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer,” he wrote. “That is the goal.”
